Agriculturist, Politician. He was noted as being the head of several important agricultural Norwegian organizations. He was born one of twelve children to petty officer and farmer Ole Svensen Aalgaard (1848-1936), and his wife Martha Gurie Gabrielsdtr. Uelman Aalgaard (1859-1915), in Algard, Norway, on September 9, 1881. He was educated locally and then took petty office training like his father before him, and he graduated from an officer school in 1903. He went onto become a successful farmer beginning in 1918, and in the military where he received the rank of Lieutenant in 1930. He then went onto becoming a successful businessman and politician in several pursuits. He served as Chairman of the Norske Eggcentraler in Oslo, Norway, a white meat and egg processing company which was organized as an agricultural cooperative in 1919, and from 1929 to 1952. He also served as a Board Member of the Norwegian Poultry Association from 1926 to 1933, and as the Deputy Mayor of Gjesdal, Norway, from 1926 to 1931, and lastly as a Municipal Council Member from 1935 to 1946. After leaving public office, he returned to his farm and continued with his agricultural pursuits until his death. He was married to Bertha Serine Egeland Asgard (1895-1983), from 1920 until his death. The couple were the parents of Martha (1925-1926), Erik (1927-1977), and Ole Ålgård (1921-1995), a famous Norwegian diplomat ambassador who served as the People's Republic of China from 1967 to 1971, and to the United Nations from 1971 to 1982. He was also the President of the United Nations Security Council from April of 1979 to June of 1980, and the Ambassador to Denmark from 1982 to 1989.
