Mariah Louisa Hynson Rutherford was the d/o Henry Ringgold Hynson and Eliza Ann Magness Hynson. She was born 24 Jan 1841 in Batesville, Independence Co., AR.

She married Senator James Rutherford 12 Nov 1862 in Batesville, Independence Co., AR. He was the s/o Walter Blythe Rutherford and Sarah McTyre Rutherford.

She died 9 Apr 1921 in Independence Co., AR. She was buried alongside her husband in the Rutherford Family Cemetery.

Mrs. Maria Louisa Rutherford passed away April 9. As far as the Guard can learn, she was at the time of her death the oldest citizen of the county who was born here and lived her entire life in Independence County. She was born Jan. 24, 1841, in the home of her father, Henry Ringgold Henson, whose residence was across the street from the present Arlington Hotel, in the heart of the residence district of Batesville at that time. Her mother was Elizabeth Ann Magness, a niece to Col. Morgan Magness. She was married to Col. James Rutherford Dec. 11, 1862. He died in 1914. They had six children, four of whom are living: M.M. Rutherford, W.A. Rutherford and Mrs. E.H. Glenn, all of Batesville; and G.L. Rutherford of Greenville, Texas. On Sunday afternoon she was laid to rest in the Rutherford family graveyard on the Rutherford Estate.
