She passed away 16 Nov 1999 in her home in Batesville, Independence Co., AR and was buried 17 Nov 1999 along side her husband and his family in Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville, Independence Co., AR.

Virginia Rutherford
Virginia Catherine Massey Rutherford died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at her home in Batesville.
Mrs. Rutherford was born March 16, 1914, on the Mack Farm near Blue Creek and lived all her life in the Batesville area. She was a life-long memmber of the Moorefield United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, served on the Board of Trustees and as church treasurer for many years. She attended Arkansas Tech and Arkansas College.
She taught at the Oil Trough and Blue Creek Schools before going to work for Sugar Creek Creamery, Kraft Foods and Hills Valley Foods, Inc. She retired from Hills Valley after 38 years.
Mrs. Rutherford was active in many civic and service organizations. She was a charter member of the Batesville Business and Professional Women. She held all of the local and state offices, serving as president of the Batesville BPW in 1962-64 and president of the state organization in 1970. She was voted "Woman of the Year" in 1963 and was serving as president of the Batesville BPW at the time of her death.
She served as a member of the White River Medical Center Board of Trustees, on the Board of the White River Medical Center Foundation, and as treasurer of the Medical Center Auxilliary,
She was an active supporter of the Independence County 4-H and recieved many 4-H awards including "Friend of 4-H" in 1992. She was a member and active supporter of the Independence/Jackson Cattleman's Association and the Arkansas Cattleman's Association and Foundation.
Mrs. Rutherford and her husband, Blythe, were both interested in youths and their education. Their goal was to help at least one person attend college every year.
Survivors include many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Blythe Rutherford, her parents, Luther Edgar and Louise DeAnna "Birdie" Massey; a sister Marie Massey Simmermon; three brothers, Gene Mack Massey, Young Mack Massey, both of Batesville, and L. Edgar Massey of Cape Girardeau, MO.; and two nephews, Gary Mack and James Robert Simmermon Jr. of Conway.
The Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Moorefield United Methodist Church with Byron McSpadden officiating. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Chris Heath, Charles "Chuck" Barnett, Eric Simmermon, Clark Nail, Benny Simmermon and Steve Massey.
Visitiation will be at her home, 1590 Maple Street, Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
