Nancy Womble Berry, 98, of Orangeburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 2720 Broughton St., Orangeburg. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home in Orangeburg.

Born June 3, 1913, in Mayesville, Mrs. Berry was the daughter of the late Julia Stiles and Noah Dickson Womble. She was married to the late Joseph Andrew Berry Jr. for 57 years. She was preceded in death by a sister, Legare Womble Bates of Greenwood.

She attended Coker College and graduated from Brenau College in Gainesville, Ga., in 1934 with a degree in music. She was the organist at First Baptist Church in Orangeburg before joining St. Andrews Methodist Church, where she was the organist for more than 20 years. She was active in many civic organizations, including the Orangeburg Music Club, Orangeburg Book Club, League of the Arts, Camellia Garden Club, Junior Service League and the Orangeburg Assembly. She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, where she attended the Fellowship Sunday School Class, the Eulalia Cook Circle and the Wednesday Bible Study.

She is survived by her four daughters, Barbara Berry Galloway (Alex) of Winston-Salem, N.C., Nan Berry Bracy (Biff) of Charlotte, N.C., Mary Berry Johnston (Harry) of Mount Pleasant and Julia Stiles Berry of St. Matthews; grandchildren, Alex Galloway (Tracey), Jay Galloway (Carrie), Barbara Barbee (Martin), Julia Weil (Russell), Mary Dunlap (Weston), Claire Eckert (Chris), Nan McGregor (Eric) and Lauren Holmes; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Special appreciation is extended by the family to caregivers, Roselyn Bozard, Margie Haynes, Mae Guinyard and Carolyn Robinson for their loving care and attention; Senior Solutions at The Oaks; and Hospice Care of South Carolina.
