Alice was born on December 23, 1919, in Tottenham, England, to Edmund and Esther Fisher. She grew up in London enjoying the opera, ballet, dances and museums. She joined the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF), an arm of the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1941 when England entered the war against Germany.

Alice was based at the Royal Air Force's Supply and Maintenance Camp in the Midlands, England. Alice was responsible for processing and securing parts for the RAF aircraft during the war throughout Great Britain.
