I have no doubt that Grm & Grf Allen would have stayed in Kansas if it had
not been for Gertie's death. Grandmother was grief stricken & her pictures
taken about that time in her life show how thin and sad she had become. Grand-
father brought her HOME to Indiana and they had their family & made their
life in Indianapolis. Altho the other ch never met her they sometimes spoke of
their sister "Gertie" who died in Kansas. I do not know the cause of death.
Her f's Bible gives her age:2 yrs,2 mos,17 days.b30 May 1873 d 16 Aug 1875.

DIED--At the residence of her parents in Erie, Neosho County, Kansas on August 17, 1875, Eva Gertrude Allen, aged 2 years, 2 months and 17 days.
Beautiful and affectionate, intelligent beyond her years "Gertie" won many hearts and blessed other homes than her own.But she was loved even more of God and the Pure in Heaven and has gone to their embrace. The funeral services took place from the ME Church, Chanute, KS, August 18th at 3 pm with many friends from this place and Erie attending.
