Services are pending at the Sorrells/Peters Funeral Home for Jane Deatherage, of 2 Morgan Lane, who died Tuesday (sic) night in Citizens General Hospital.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today in the Sorrells/Peters Chapel for James (Dal) Deatherage, 76, of Morgan Lane, who died Monday in a local hospital. Chaplain H.L. Brown will officiate and burial with military honors will be in Forest Park Cemetery.

Born April 28, 1909 in Rockford, Wash., he was the son of James Melton and Eula Johnson Deatherage. He married Augusta Payne in Montgomery, Ala. on Jan. 8, 1968.

He held a Ph.D. in Sociology from Washington State University and was a retired Lt. Col. in the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force he was in charge of the Reserve Officer Training Corps and had written most of the textbooks used in the program. He was known as “Mr. ROTC.”

He was also a member of the ACACIA fraternity and the First Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife Augusta, of Greenville; a daughter, Laura Spencer, of Greenville; a son, Jerry Deatherage; a sister, Mrs. Edwin Cavanaugh, of Auburn, Wash., and one grandchild.
