OBITUARY Iron County Reporter Oct 12 2011 “Obituaries: JoAnn Gallas”
COLGATE, Wis.-JoAnn Gallas (nee Benishek), 69, passed away Sept. 12, 2011 after a three year battle with cancer.
She was born Jan. 30, 1942 in Iron River to Lillian Marie (Juneau) and Joseph Winslow Benishek. JoAnn graduated from Stambaugh High in 1960 and attended business school in Minneapolis, Minn. She later relocated to Milwaukee, Wis. and married James Gallas. JoAnn was an extremely caring mother who took tremendous pride and satisfaction in raising her two daughters. JoAnn also loved spending time with all of her immediate and extended family, enjoyed her flower garden, and took great pride in working outside the home after her children were on their own.
JoAnn is survived by her husband of 44 years, James; and two daughters, Jennifer (Joe Lower) and Jessica (Marcus Burnham); a proud grandmother to Kaitlyn, Alexa, Gabrielle, and Tyton. Also survived by her sister Marilyn Uren; half brothers Daniel and Timothy Benishek; cousin Betty McLean and many other friends and family members.
A Celebration of JoAnn’s Life will be held at Church and Chapel Funeral Home in Waukesha from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15 with Rev. Thomas Griffey officiating the services beginning at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition would be appreciated.
