At age 20, Ruth married Ralph Ragland “Raggie” Berry, the son of J.M. Berry (1874- ) and Beulah Raglin (alternatively, Ragland, 1891-1963) on 26 Jan 1935 in Ardmore. Raggie’s mother Beulah Raglin was apparently twice married, first to J.M. Berry, then to Walter Charles Doyle (1885-1951). Raggie’s half-sister was Ruby Elizabeth Doyle Pickard (1916-1990).
Ralph was a professional baseball umpire. He was also an umpire for the Ardmore Indians baseball team, part of the Sooner State league. They settled in Ardmore where Ralph worked as a milk salesman for Tom Cooper dairies. His father had also worked in the dairy business.
They had two children, Ralph David in 1941 and Helen Dorene in 1945.
Raggie died the following year in 1951, and Ruth found work with the California Oil Company (bought by Chevron in 1977) to support her two children.
Soon after, she married James Emory Landers, son of John G. Landers (1871-1953) and Sarah T. Dunn (1874-1963). James worked at Claude Arnold Chevrolet in Ardmore. They married in a simple ceremony on 14 Feb 1953 in Abilene, TX, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Stone. They settled in Ardmore, where Ruth’s two children were adopted by their stepfather, so their surnames were changed from Berry to Landers.
Ruth and James divorced in Ardmore sometime around 1960, where she continued work for Holliman Drilling Company. She moved to Houston by 1967, when her daughter Dorene fell ill.
After Dorene’s premature death in 1967, she remained in TX, settling Pasadena until her death in 1983.
