A lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was the son of the late James and Ruby Ingram Minge. He was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church, and had attended Piney Grove United Methodist Church. He was an active member of Meridian Sun Lodge 50 F&AM, Etowah Lodge 653 F&AM and the McMinn County York Rite Bodies. For years, he presided in numerous funeral rites for deceased Masons, and was a member of the Odd Fellows. He was associated with TVA in facility maintenance, retiring after 20 years, and later was associated with Jerry Smith Funeral Home, until his second retirement, but continued to serve as a part-time assistant. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a member of American Legion Post 11 in Etowah. He was an avid bicyclist, riding almost every day from Etowah to the Hiwassee River Bridge with other bicyclist friends. He was a great man and a nice one at that. He was always helpful and very friendly to anyone and everyone.
