Hubert Carter Maddox, Jr., age 79, died at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, Sunday, January 25, 2015. A native of Rochelle, he was born June 2, 1935. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a medic, then he went on to receive his Registered Nurse's degree and also a Master of Divinity degree. He was a Registered Nurse Educator at South Georgia College in Douglas and at Clemson University. His last pastorate was St. Clare's Episcopal Church in Blairsville, GA.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Schwab Maddox of Americus; daughter Grace Maddox of Lyons, CO; stepdaughter Colleen Sprayberry of Newnan; son Hubert Carter Maddox III (Trey) of Lyons, CO; stepson Paul David Lipsey of Newnan; and brother-in-law Norton Futch of Americus; grandsons Tyler Lipsey, Clark Lipsey, Stephen Sprayberry, Jr., Wallace Sprayberry, and two great-grandsons, Tyler Paul Lipsey and Davis Clark Lipsey.
