Muriel was born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England. In 1923, Muriel's family sailed from England for America, settling in West Virginia. In 1941 she graduated from The College of William and Mary and taught Physical Education in West Virginia for a year. Muriel then served in Recreational Services with the American Red Cross in both Canada and Alaska, where she met and married Capt. Hugo Clark Aldrich in Anchorage, Alaska 19 Nov 1944. They had three children: Hugo Clark, Jr. (b 1945), Robert Conrad (b 1947), and Constance Muriel (b 1948). After being stationed at various bases in the U.S., Germany, and Japan, they settled in Columbia, SC. Muriel reentered the teaching field and taught physical education at Dreher High School for many years and assisted in the Foreign Language Department before retiring from the Richland County School District in 1991. Muriel and her family were active members of St. John's Episcopal Church for forty years. Muriel, in later years, moved to Greenville, SC to be near her daughter and family.
