Ruth was born on September 16, 1922 in Baltimore, Maryland as Ruth Virginia Zapf. Her parents, Charles and Ada Zapf, were both born in Maryland as well. They had two children; Ruth being the younger. As a young girl, she received pins for perfect attendance in church, and eventually taught Sunday School classes. Ruth married Richard Curtis Long in Baltimore on December 11, 1946. They remained in the area until 1950.Some of Ruth's favorite things to do were square dancing, camping, riding dune buggies, going out for dinner, going to the movie theater, and playing bingo. She was also loved to exercise and listen to fun music, especially big band music. She has lived in Baltimore, Maryland; Charleston, South Carolina; and El Cajon, California. She has always been a loving, caring, and giving person whose smile could light up a room. She loved to entertain and was considered a very happy and classy lady! Ruth was a very loving mother and wife; her family was most important to her. Charles and Linda were pride and joy. She was excited to see Charles marry his bride, Ella; and also to see Linda get married to David. Ruth adored her grandbabies, Adam and Kiel. And then there were many others for whom she babysat… and she loved them all like they were her own.
