He was first married to Emeline Walters. Five children were born to this marriage, Milford, John, Hannah, Melvin, and Merton. Of those five children only Merton survived to adulthood. Ed left Emeline for the neighbor Lucy Rettig Wilson. They moved to Montcalm County in Michigan, taking with them her son John Wilson. Lucy and Ed had one son, Melford B. Moore. Ed was a successful business man having sold real estate and laying out of Stanton and Mecosta, Michigan. Edwin was the man who bought acreage in Montcalm County, platted the land, sold the parcels and eventually the town that developed was named Edmore after him. He also bought up the railroad right of way between what became Edmore and Big Rapids. He moved from Edmore to Detroit in the 1880's. The Moore's bought a tract of land near Carlisle, Lonocke, Arkansas in 1885 and began ranching. In 1886 while out for a ride Ed's rifle was accidently discharged going through his thigh.
Complications occured and he died. His body was sent back to Detroit for burial.
