Daniel Henry Carter, 72, of Fredericksburg passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015.

Mr. Carter was born July 15, 1943. He was raised in Dumfries and graduated from Gar-Field High School in 1961. He began his career with the Federal Government at age 18 as a clerk typist and continued his career as a Contracting Specialist, Contracting Officer and Procurement Analyst serving the United States Army at Fort Belvoir, Vint Hill Farms, and the Intelligence Oversight Division U.S Army Inspector General Agency at the Pentagon. He received several awards during his career including the Meritorious Civilian Service Award for “his selflessness and dedication in keeping with the finest traditions of Federal Service”. He retired in 1996 and began the greatest work of his life selflessly and lovingly caring for his wife Pat until the time of her death in 2012.

Dan loved the company of his family and friends, but was never happier than when he was riding his motorcycle. He travelled countless joyous miles throughout Virginia and beyond.

He is survived by his daughters, Christine Greer and her husband John, and Jennifer Greer and her husband Rob; his grandchildren, Amanda, William, Daniel, Ryan, Emily, Hannah and Nathan; his sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Jesse Haskins; his brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Eloise Carter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Henry Carter, his infant son, Andrew David, his son-in-law, Billy Greer, and his beloved wife of 49 years, Patricia Buskirk Carter.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. Burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery, Manassas, VA.
