Mr. Edmund L. Smith Jr, 79, passed away peacefully after a period of failing health. He was born 26 October 1935 in Brockton, the eldest son of the late Edmund and Mary (Guidetti) Smith.

Ed was a proud veteran of the US Army having served from 1957-1960 and was stationed in Germany as a Morse code interceptor. After his discharge, he was a truck driver and member of Teamsters Local 25.

Ed's first passion in life was the Boston Braves, and he was a card-carrying member of the Knothole Gang and the Boston Braves Historical Society right until his passing. He had a passion for gardening, with an extensive knowledge of flowers and herbs. He was an avid collector of brewerania, with a collection of items numbering in the thousands, and a collection of model antique cars & trucks.

He is survived by his children Michael Smith and his wife Pim of Bridgewater, Peter Smith and his wife Mary of Halifax and Maureen Keillor and her husband Howard of Georgia, brothers Kevin Smith and his wife Marylou of Norwell, and Shawn Smith and his wife Mary of Webster, NH. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held Friday September 25 at 11:00 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Thursday September 24 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
