Margaret "Peggi" Bell was born July 10, 1937, in Dodge City, Kansas, the daughter of Lyman and Elise Johnson. Throughout her lifetime, family and friends always referred to her by her nickname "Peggi".

Peggi attended grade school in Concordia, Kansas, during the time that her father was Pastor of the Methodist Church in this north Kansas community. Peggi made lifelong friends during these early school years and is still considered a member of the Concordia class of 1955, although the Johnson family moved before Peggi entered high school. She became a graduate of the Hays, Kansas, High School Class of 1955. She completed her undergraduate studies at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, before attending the University of Kansas School of Medicine at Kansas City. She received her doctorate in 1963, one of only four women in her graduating class to do so. She went on to serve back to back residencies in psychiatry and child psychiatry at the KU Medical Center before joining the faculty there for the next ten years.

Peggi maintained a private practice in Lawrence, Kansas, for several years, then moved her family to Germany where she became the staff psychiatrist for a government clinic attached to the 97th US Army General Hospital in Frankfurt. After completing her five year assignment in Germany she returned to Kansas and completed the remainder of her twenty year tenure with the government by serving at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Topeka.

After retiring, Peggi lived for a few years in Texas, then returned to the Kansas City area where she continued to live for the remainder of her life.

Her retirement years were spent with church activities, world travel with her daughters, genealogy research and watching sporting events involving her grandsons.

Peggi is survived by her son, Jonathan Bell and by daughters Laura Bell and Rebecca Bell.

Memorial services were March 29, 2014 at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas.
