Nancy Ann Austin
December 15, 1941 - January 29, 2014

Nancy Ann Austin passed away in her home on January 29th after a 5-year battle with cancer. Nancy was born on December 15, 1941 to Carma and Raymond Williams in Vancouver, WA. She grew up in Portland, OR with her two sisters Sharon and Donna. She attended Jefferson High School. She continued her education at Oregon College of Education in Monmouth, where met and married David Austin in 1961. She wrote a Valentine card to David a few years before his death that said, “You are a one-of-a-kind man. I thank God every day that I’m the lucky lady who won your heart. You’ll always be my valentine.” After David’s death from cancer in 2008, she continued to keep his Bible and wedding ring by her bedside.

Nancy started her teaching career at Lyle Elementary School in Dallas, Oregon. After taking several years off to raise her 3 children, she continued to teach at Whitworth Elementary until her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, and volunteering with her friends at Dallas Retirement Village and in the community. She was active in both the Dallas and Salem First Christian Churches.

Nancy is survived by her sisters Sharon Williams and Donna Hodsdon, her brother-in-law Greg Hodsdon, her brother-in-law Keith Austin, her sister-in-law Edith Austin, her children Robert Austin, Amy Austin Kelley and Lisa Austin, her son-in-law Steve Kelley, Robert’s fiancée Irene de le Cruz, her grandchildren Zach and Rachel Kelley, and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Nancy at the Dallas First Christian Church in Dallas, Oregon on Saturday, February 15th at 11 am. Any contributions in Nancy’s name can be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. The Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center is caring for the family.
