Cyril William Langmead was the son of Arthur William and Lucy Mary Langmead, of Sidmouth, Devon. He was an Ordinary Seaman on the (Dutch) merchant ship Laertes when it was torpedoed and sunk off the coast of Florida, USA, on May 3, 1942. German submarine U-109 was responsible, and Mr. Hedley was one of 18 men who died as a result. 16 years old.
