Peter John Hedley was the son of John Tudno and Elizabeth Cummins Hedley, of Leek, Staffordshire. He was a Midshipman on the (Dutch) merchant ship Laertes when it was torpedoed and sunk off the coast of Florida, USA, on May 3, 1942. German submarine U-109 was responsible, and Mr. Hedley was one of 18 men who died as a result. He was 17 years old.
