Mr. Francis Edward McGillan Jr., 74, of Tully Square in Winston-Salem died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004. He was born Sept. 25, 1929, in Manchester, N.H., to the late Francis Edward and Gertrude M. McGillan. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Madeleine, and seven children, Patricia McGillan (Seamus Cooley) of Louisville, Ky., Mary Ellen (Tom) McGillan-Overman of Granger, Ind., Martin (Tee) McGillan of Wilmington, Francis (Lizette) McGillan of Lexington, S.C., Marguerite (Jeffrey) Krause of Frederick, Md., Kathleen (Sean) Trench of Herndon, Va., and Rosemary McGillan of Fairfax, Va.; and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Marguerite (Leo) Donovan and Jeanne (John) Sweeney, both of Massachusetts and Sr. Marilyn McGillan, OPB, of Watertown, N.Y.; and a brother, James (Kathleen) McGillan of McLean, Va. Mr. McGillan, a resident of Winston-Salem for 30 years, served as a U.S. Marine during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 20, at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. The family wishes to thank the devoted staff of 10 Reynolds, 4A, 5A and 6C ICU units of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center for their tireless care and attention. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the building fund of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 333 Springdale Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27104 or Crisis Control Ministries, 200 E. 10th St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101-1512.
