WINSTON-SALEM - Mr. Edward M. Toelkes, 91, passed away August 9, 2009 at Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley. He was born in Rooks County, Kansas to the late Jacob and Katherine Rempe Toelkes. Mr. Toelkes was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church and was retired from Western Electric with 30 years of service. He was a member and Regional Master of the National Contract Bridge League. He was preceded in death by his wife, Constance Parkinson Toelkes; a son, Philip John Toelkes; a daughter, Jane Katherine Toelkes; a brother, Jacob Toelkes; and a sister, Mary Thummel. Mr. Toelkes is survived by his sons, David Toelkes (Jane) of Pawleys Island, SC and Philip Toelkes (Brandi) of Winston-Salem, NC; two grand-children, Sarah and Rachel Toelkes; and a niece, Carol Thummel. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 14, 2009 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church with Father Alex Ayala as Celebrant. Memorials may be made to Palliative Carecenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658.
