CREVE COEUR ~ Leslie Warren Higdon, 82, of 516 Hayworth Street, succumbed to non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma at 3:22 a.m. Monday, July 10, 2006, while surrounded by his loving family at his residence.

Born November 24, 1923 in Griggsville to James Faris and Muriel Ellen (Peecher) Higdon, he married Vivian Eileen Moritz on December 3, 1949 in Glasford. She survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Cheryl (David) Sinclair of Sandoval, Elizabeth (Waldo, Jr.) Born of Washington, Barbara (Roger) Wrench of Rushville, Angela (Carl, IV) Roth of East Peoria; three sons, James (Sandra) Higdon of Sparland, Dennis (Betty) Higdon of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Roger (Melony) Higdon of Becker, Minnesota; twenty-one grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald (Rena) Higdon of Marquette Heights and two sisters, Lucille (Alva) Myers of Marquette Heights and Imogene Cross of Nicholasville, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant daughter.

He served in the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns during World War II.

Leslie worked at Caterpillar, Inc for 33 years, retiring in 1980 as a planning processor.

He was a past member of the Creve Coeur School District #76 Board of Education.

Prior to and during retirement, Leslie was a locally known beekeeper, with 100 hives located at numerous apiaries throughout Central Illinois. He was a member of the Illinois and Heart of Illinois Beekeeper's Associations.

Leslie enjoyed a long and rich life, with interest and hobbies spanning gardening, camping, custom excavation, fishing, hunting and hunting dog trials, carpentry and furniture making, travel, and most importantly, spending time with his large family. His wit, humor, guidance, and friendship will be missed.

He was a member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Creve Coeur.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2006 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel. The Rev. Don Zumwalt will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fon du Lac Cemetery in East Peoria, with military rites accorded by the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
