PEKIN ~ LaVerna Rose Moorhouse, 80, of 1520 El Camino Drive, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Thursday, August 3, 2006 at Pekin Manor. She was formerly of 1612 Deppert Drive.

Born August 27, 1925 in Pekin to Nelson George and Carrie Lee (Crafton) Eschmeyer, she married John B. Moorhouse, Jr. on June 12, 1949 in Pekin. He died August 3, 1996 in Woodstock. Her parents also preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol S. (Paul) Dahlgren of Greeley, Colorado and Judy K. (Dennis) Dietrich of Pekin; one son, John L. (Pamela) Moorhouse of Woodstock; eight grandchildren, Cori E. (Kip) Snyder, Derek A. Jones, both of North Pekin, Erin L. (Steve) Kaye of Algonquin, Jeri L. Dietrich, Megan A. Jones, Brandon L. (Linzee) Dietrich, all of Pekin, Benjamin J. Moorhouse of Normal, and Patrick K. Moorhouse of Champaign and five great-grandchildren, Noah, Paige, Keagan, Kaiden and Current.

She was a 1943 graduate of Pekin Community High School.

She had worked as a secretary for the Tazewell County Circuit Clerk and at Caterpillar and Farm Service. While living in Richmond, LaVerna worked for the McHenry School District.

LaVerna was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin, where she was a member of the Tri-M Adult Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women and the Priscilla Circle. In earlier years, she and her husband served as youth leaders at the church. She also had played in the bell choir at the church and was formerly active with Chapter LM of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

Family was important to her and she enjoyed playing Bridge, Pinochle and cooking. She also enjoyed playing golf at both Sunset Hills and Parkview Golf Courses and bowling.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2006 at Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, August 6, 2006 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel and also from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
