Walter Cornelius Menssen was born April 21, 1929 to Cornelius and Frieda (Grund) Menssen in Butterfield, Minnesota. He attended and later was a 1946 Graduate of Butterfield High School. Walter then farmed in the Butterfield area. On September 23, 1950, he was united in marriage to Helen Howard at St. JohnÂ's Lutheran Church in Sherburn, Minnesota. After their marriage they farmed in the Butterfield area until moving to Cape Coral, Florida. In 1976 they moved to Sherburn, Minnesota. Walter was employed for seventeen years as a welder at Ag-Chem in Jackson until his retirement. He was a member of St. JohnÂ's Lutheran Church in Sherburn. He greatly enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping, dancing, watching sports on television and especially the Minnesota Twins. He also enjoyed his Siamese cat, Â"LuckyÂ".

Walter died on Monday morning, July 24, 2006 at Trimont Health Care Center in Trimont, Minnesota at the age of seventy-seven years.

His wife, Helen Menssen of Sherburn, Minnesota; his two sons, Larry Menssen and his wife, Cindy, of Huntley, Minnesota and Kenneth Menssen and his wife, Jeanne, of Fort Collins, Colorado; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three brothers, Donald Menssen and his wife, Mary Ann, and Leslie Menssen and his wife, Bev, both of St. James, Minnesota, Leroy Menssen and his wife, Jenny, of Estherville, Iowa; two sisters, Darlene Ebbenga and her husband, Richard, of Butterfield, Minnesota and Karen Janzen and her husband, Lawrence, of Butterfield, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Eugene Howard of Belgrade, Minnesota and sister-in-law, June Mueller and her husband, Keith, of Watertown, Minnesota and other relatives.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Dennis Menssen and other relatives.
