Smith will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Gridley Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints. Smith, 68, died Sunday in a local hospital, following a heart attack. He was born Feb. 28, 1916 in Gridley. He lived his entire life there, working for more than 30 years at the McNeil-Libby Cannery in Gridley.

He was a member of the Second Ward of the Gridley LDS Church. Survivors include his wife, Rena of Gridley; one son, Melvin of Fallon, Nev.; two brothers, Elmer L. and Vernon E., both of Gridley; three sisters, Amy Hepworth and Majorie Quist, both of Gridley, and Eunice Dennis of Maxwell; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. His son, Ray, died in 1938 and his son, Dennis, died in Vietnam in 1969.

Bishop Robert Fife of the Second Ward of the Gridley LDS Church will officiate at the services. Burial will be in the Gridley-Biggs District Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday in the Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel, which is handling arrangements.
