Thomas served in the Medical Corps during the Spanish-American War. He married Nellie M. Moore on 15 Feb 1899 in Cayahuga County, Ohio. There were no children from this marriage.
He died on 7 Aug 1903 from chronic Diabetes and Heart Failure, at the home of his brother, Dr. Joseph Henry Ablett (1858-1921) in Glennie, Alcona County, MI.
