John was born to Catharine Ann Harkins and George W. Jacobs. His mother died when he was very young. His father, George W. Jacobs raised John and his sister Marietta, until he too died leaving a John as a teenager. He worked as a steamfitter working for Overbrook Steamherst Co. He married Elizabeth S. Barr Jacobs. His sister Marietta Jacobs was older than John. She married William R. Thomas. An older brother George Tyler Jacobs who married Annie Mary Jacobs...a different Jacobs line, one German and one English. George T. and Annie Mary moved to Elwood, Atlantic County, New Jersey and raised 9 children. They are buried in Elwood, NJ. I have been unable to locate Marietta Jacobs Thomas. Her husband was 19 years older than she, so she most likely remarried.
