She was born June 5, 1918, to Dell and Iva (Taft) Cowin on the family farm in the Town of Chetek.
On August 11, 1940, she married Gomer "Sonny" E. Massie at Chetek. They operated the dairy farm on the Massie family homestead in the Town of Sioux Creek.
Dorothy was active in the Homemakers Club, 4-H, Camping Club, Card Club, golfing tournaments, Dallas Methodist Church and later Dallas Lutheran Church, where she was a member of Faith Circle, and the Barron County Gem and Mineral Society.
She enjoyed gardening, golfing, dancing, camping, traveling, fishing, playing card games, crocheting, sewing, quilting, rock hounding, picking wild berries and picnicking. She especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the Town of Sioux Creek are daughters, Joan (Dennis) Kieser of Thorp, Jean Massie of Salem, Ore., Zita (Jack) Harrison of Dodgeville and Marilyn (David) Briggs of Dallas; grandchildren, Desilyn (Alan) Tyznik, Mark (Tracy) Keiser, Craig (Kim) Kieser and Bill (Shari) Briggs; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Cowin of Mikana; as well an many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Wendy Briggs; and brothers, Harold and Ralph (Doris) Cowin.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 17, from Dallas Lutheran Church, with Reverend Bob Friese officiating. Interment was at Dallas Cemetery, Town of Dallas. [Based on an obituary obtained 20 July 2006 from news-shield.com.]
