Edward L Gorsch, 73 of rural Deep River, died of cancer Sunday, Nov 10, 1996 in Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Community Church, rural Deep River, by the Rev. Jack Olsen. He was survived by his wife, Marilyn and his six sons and six daughters, 18 grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. Also surviving is his brother Lornie Gorsch, step mother Blanche Gorsh, and three half brothers and two half sisters.
Edward is my grandfather. He farmed for most of his life, but later on in his life he bacame the custodian at the school I went to. I would always ask to go the restroom and slip into the Custodians room to see grandpa and he would always have a piece of candy for me, usually salt water taffy. Grandpa was a hard worker and as stubborn as they come, but i think he had a soft spot for us grandchildren. We always used to go visit my grandparents every Sunday and we'd sit on the front porch while Grandpa sat in the swing with his fly swatter, swatting at anything that flew in front of him.
