Joe Joiner completed his life journey on November 24, 2007, and has gone on to join his beloved wife, Mildred in their heavenly home.

Joe was born October 22, 1909, in San Saba, Texas.

He was preceded in death by two sisters Eva McLaughlin and Selma Parker and a brother Lloyd Joiner.

He is survived by his daughter, Lou Horstmann and her husband Kerry; two grandsons Brett and Jonathan ; one brother Wilson Joiner of San Angelo, Texas; one sister Gene McCullough of Houston, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Joe was a self-made man who left school in the 9th grade in order to support his family by taking over the family's business when his father passed away.

When cars began to outnumber horses, the livery stable had been reinvented and proudly provided one of the first garages in San Angelo, Texas.

Joe worked for Southwestern Bell for over forty years and was proud to be called a "telephone man." After he retired in 1974, he and Mildred realized their dreams of travel and adventure.

Some of their happiest times were spent planning and going "on the road again." Joe also took an active role in helping to build up his local community by contributing his time and his skills in the planning and construction of many buildings in the area including his own home, as well as the Canyon Lake United Methodist Church.

Joe had a wicked sense of humor, an adventurous spirit and a sincere compassion for all those he knew.

He and Mildred lived life to the fullest and embraced the belief that faith was to believe that all possibilities exist.

He never let obstacles or adversity stand in his way.

He will be greatly missed, but will always be remembered with love and admiration for a life lived well.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2007, at 11 a.m.

at Canyon Lake United Methodist Church, 206 Flintstone, Canyon Lake, Texas, 78133, 830-899-7104.

The family has requested that any memorials may be made to the Canyon Lake United Methodist Church.
