Obituary of Charles E. Neubaum

Charles E. Neubaum, 79, of 27 Salem Road, died at 1:32 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Martinsburg, W. Va.

Born March 22, 1918, in Enhaut, Dauphin County, he was a son of the late Fred G. and Mary A. Millhime Neubaum.

He was a member of King Street United Brethren Church.

A 1935 graduate of William Penn High School, Harrisburg, he graduated from Central Penn Business School, also in Harrisburg.

In 1968, he retired with 22 years of active service from the U.S. Air Force, having attained the rank of senior master sergeant. He was a chief warrant officer for 10 years in the Air Force Reserves. He also had worked in public relations for Hood-Light-Geise Advertising Agency, Harrisburg, and was assistant state adjutant for the American Legion from 1970 to 1980.

Mr. Neubaum served in World War II and the Korean War and during the Vietnam era.

A life member of Oscar M. Hykes Post 223 American Legion, Shippensburg, and Harry D. Zeigler Post 6319 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Greencastle, he was a member of the Landis-McCleaf Detachment of the Marine Corps League of Chambersburg, Atomic Veterans and Chambersburg Club.

Lillian Shatzer Neubaum, his first wife, died in 1980. He and his second wife, Shelda K. Kell Neubaum, were married on Sept. 25, 1982.

In addition to his wife, surviving are a son, Gary of Enola; a granddaughter, Allison B. of Enola; and a brother, Robert (Fred Neubaum) of Lemoyne. A brother (William Henry Neubaum) also preceded him in death.

Burial will be Jan. 27 in Arlington (Va.) National Cemetery, with full military honors.
