He was born on August 19, 1963 in Charlotte, NC. Paul graduated from East Mecklenburg High School and furthered his education at Presbyterian College where he earned a degree in business. Earning his Eagle Scout rank was an accomplishment of which he was very proud.
He was an original Charlotte Hornets employee and enjoyed working for them until they left Charlotte. At the time of his death, he was employed by Hall Chevrolet in Chesapeake, VA where he was well respected and made many close friends.
He enjoyed serving several years as a youth advisor at Sardis Presbyterian Church. Paul had a wonderful singing voice and sang in church choirs.
He also shared his father's interest in woodcarving. After moving to Virginia, he discovered ballroom dancing where he found a second family.
Paul was a true and loyal friend to many and was always willing to help anyone who needed it.
He is survived by his mother, sister, sister-in-law, two nieces, and three nephews
He was preceded in death by his father Harold Abernathy; and brother, Don Abernathy.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Sardis Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Interment will be private.
