She moved to New Orleans to work for the war effort including working on Naval Ships as a riveter. After the war, Nell became a lifelong employee of Southern Bell Telephone Company, holding many positions from operator to lineman to manager. Nell was also was active in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Metairie, she volunteered for many charitable and community organizations, and was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America.
