Imogene Iris Langfritz was born on January 21, 1927 to Charles and Nellie (Quinlin) Langfritz in Carnarvon, Iowa. She graduated from Wall Lake High School in Wall Lake, Iowa in 1944. Jean then attended and later was a 1948 Graduate of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa as a Registered Nurse. On April 15, 1950 she was united in marriage to Tilmer Nau at Dawson, Minnesota. She was employed at the Dawson Hospital and then later at Trimont Community Hospital. Tilmer died on June 26, 1961. Jean then was employed at the St. James Hospital as Administrator and Surgical Nurse. On March 14, 1964 she was united in marriage to Harold Hopman. In 1981 they were divorced. On November 11, 1983 she was united in marriage to Howard Schmoldt at his home. Jean was employed at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Truman until her retirement. She attended St. John's Lutheran Church in South Branch. She also belonged to the Eagles Club in St. James. Jean greatly enjoyed bowling, cooking, traveling and spending holidays with her family. She spent many hours attending her grandchildren's sporting events.

Jean died on Tuesday evening, July 11, 2006 at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato, Minnesota surrounded by her family at the age of seventy-nine years.

Survivors include her husband, Howard Schmoldt of rural St. James, Minnesota; her children, son, Trevor Nau and his wife, Dawn, of St. James, Minnesota, daughters, Garla Anderson and her husband, Dennis, of rural Odin, Minnesota, Vonda Rinne and her husband, Robert, of St. James, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Jesse Nau and his wife, Joyce, of St. James, Megan Wassman and her husband, Kylian, of Mankato, Derek Nau of Mankato, Heidi Nau and her fiancée, Matt Anderson of New Ulm, Minnesota, Travis Anderson and his special Friend, Amber Ruhland of Mankato, Kristi Anderson of St. James, Brooke Malmgren and her husband, Luke, of St. James, Brittany Rinne of Mankato; five great-grandchildren, Samantha, Sara, Makena, Isaiah and Isabel; two step-sons, Ronald Schmoldt and his wife, Kathy, of Clearwater, Minnesota and Keith Schmoldt of Darfur, Minnesota; three step-grandchildren, Abby and Aaron Schmoldt and Alicia Schmoldt; sister-in-law, Lois Langfritz; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lawrence Schmoldt and his wife, Pat, of rural Ormsby, Minnesota and Richard Absolon and his wife, Margene, of Crystal Falls, Michigan; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents,husband, Tilmer Nau in 1961; infant daughter, Gayle Marie Nau on October 29, 1951; brother, Roger Langfritz and other relatives.
