A NSW police officer who was killed while on duty. On 11 August 1946 he went with DC Bowie to Long Bay Gaol to arrest two suspects who were going to be visiting two female prisoners. The suspects duly arrived and were arrested. DC Bowie drove the car back to Daceyville Police Station while DC Ahearn sat in the back between the offenders. On the way one of the offenders (Sydney Grant) pulled out a pistol and shot DC Ahearn. He died shortly after. The offenders escaped but were recaptured. Grant was found guilty of murder and was executed.
