Funeral of E.J. Alspaugh.
Elias John Alspaugh died Saturday afternoon, Oct. 21 at four o'clock as a result of consumption. The funeral services were at the home on east Fifth avenue, Sunday afternoon at three o'clock, conducted by Rev. Frank Rex, who took as a text, Romans, 8-28. The music was a quartet composed of Miss Mable Schueler, Miss Ora Smith, Roy Vaughn and J.R. Smith.
The pall bearers were: C.W. Bailey, Irving Cole, W.H. Butler, R.L. Brown, E.L. Wyatt and George W. Scothorne, all members of the Siverd Post.
Obituary
Elias John Alspaugh was born near Rock Mills, Fairfield Co., Ohio, February 23rd, 1846 and departed this life Oct. 20th, 1911 at his home 1015 east Fifth avenue, Winfield, Ks., after a long illness. He was one of five children all of whom preceded him in death. He was married to Laura C. Lappon August 18, 1878 and one child, a daughter was born to them. Both are still living.
He served as a private in Troop M, 2nd Regiment, United States Cavalry for over two years.
His sufferings were great and often during his sickness he expressed himself as ready and anxious to go home.
He is survived by a wife, one daughter, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends to mourn his departure.
