Nolan E. Carter, age 89 died on November 22, 2013. Raised in Pitman, he was a graduate of Pitman High School in 1942. Nolan served in the US Army during World War II from 1943-1945. He moved to Glassboro in 1947 when his family purchased Manahath Cemetery which he owned and operated until 1995. His family also owned White Star Laundry in Pitman which Nolan operated from 1947-1969. He was a member and Past Master in 1978 of Glassboro Masonic Lodge #85 (now Pitman Lodge #197 F&AM), member of Highland Chemical Engine Company, Pitman, the Glassboro Lions Club and an original member of the Hobo Band. Nolan was an avid traveler, bicycling throughout Europe over 18 times. During retirement he volunteered at the Masonic Home in Burlington. He is survived by his children Debra Carter, Kathy (Wayne) Simons, David (Patricia) Carter, longtime companion Hilda Grauman, grandchildren Douglas, Tiffany, Derek, Heather (Charles), Lauren, Dylan, Kayla, 3 great grandchildren, sister Vivian Prasch, former wife Catherine Carter and sister in law Francis Carter. He was predeceased by his brother Clinton, Sr. and great grandchild. Friends may greet the family on Monday from 7-8pm followed by a Masonic Service at 8pm and on Tuesday from 9:30-11am in the KELLEY FUNERAL HOME, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 11am. Interment Manahath Cemetery.
