Paul "Wally" Cronkright, 65, of Midland, passed away suddenly Thursday, July 2, 2015, surrounded by loved ones at MidMichigan Medical Center. He was born Sept. 13, 1949, the third of seven sons of the late Norma and Clyde Lindsay Cronkright. He grew up in Midland, graduating from Midland High School. Paul served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On May 23, 1987 he married Penny Morgan in Sanford. They shared their love in the births of their three children, Tyler, Matthew and Jaymi. Penny preceded Paul in death in 2007. With great love, Paul committed his life to raising their children. He will always be remembered by them as "the best Dad ever."
He worked at the Midland Holiday Inn and Midland Public Schools. He was a life-time member of Homer United Methodist Church. Paul loved to visit with all he met, and never met anyone that he left as a stranger. He was a huge Loons fan, and you could count on finding Paul at most Midland sporting events.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Melody Clute. He is survived by his three children; brothers, Tom (Nancy) Cronkright, Nelson Cronkright, Steve (Deb) Cronkright, Pete (Judy) Cronkright, Dave (Robin) Cronkright and Dan (Jan) Cronkright; sister-in-law, Sherri (Dean) Dubay; brother-in-law, Steve (Lynn) Morgan; mother and father-in-law, Jay and Beverly Morgan; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will take place 11 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2015, at the Homer United Methodist Church. The Rev. Josheua Blanchard will officiate. Family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street, on Sunday, from 4-8 p.m., and at the church on Monday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider donations to the children.
