Obituary for William Abernathy Jr.
William Butler "Bill" Abernathy, Jr. passed away on Wednesday night, March 4, 2015, surrounded by family and friends.

His intelligence, humor, and wry wit will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Bill was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and lived in Covington with his wife, Connie, for the past nine years. Bill was as Associate Professor of Psychology at Southeastern Louisiana University and Vice President of Performance Systems at Aubrey Daniels, International. Prior to joining Southeastern, Bill was the President of Abernathy and Associates in Memphis, TN. Bill received his undergraduate degree in psychology at Florida State University; a Masters Degree in Experimental Psychology from Vanderbilt University; and, a doctorate in Organizational Psychology from Ohio State University. Bill authored three books: "The Sin of Wages," "Managing Without Supervisors," and "The Liberated Workplace - Transitioning to Walden III." Bill published numerous articles in academic and trade publications, was an Associate Editor of the Journal of Organizational Behavior Management, a board member of The Cambridge Center, and recipient of the International Association for Applied Behavior Analysis' Outstanding Contributor Award.

Bill was the son of the late William and Emily Abernathy of Jonesboro Arkansas. He is survived by his wife Conie Lowry Abernathy of Covington; three children, William Todd Abernathy of Manchester, New Hampshire, Elizabeth Ann Abernathy of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Sloan Lowry (Dial Morrison) Abernathy of New Orleans; four grandchildren, Jackson and Miles Trefethen of Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Elizabeth and Carolyn Abernathy of Manchester, New Hampshire; two brothers, David (Judy) Abernathy of Jonesboro Arkansas, Frank (Yvonne) Abernathy of Kettering Ohio, and sister, Ann Abernathy (Bill McLelland) of Portland, Oregon.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial services at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Covington Presbyterian Church, 222 S. Jefferson St. Covington, LA 70433. Interment at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery will have taken place privately.

Instead of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the William B. Abernathy Scholarship for Industrial and Organizational Psychology at Southeastern Louisiana University Foundation at SLU Box 10293, Hammond, LA 70402, or Covington Presbyterian Church.
