Grandpa was known as "Carl" most of his life; he spent his entire life farming in Rush Township, owning a number of farms near Henderson, Michigan. He was the son of Daniel A. and Nancy Belle McCarthy Shuster (also at rest in Riverside Cemetery).

On September 22, 1920, he married Grace Lucille Overpack. Together, they had 8 children, four of whom are still living. Deceased are Kathleen Grace Shuster (interred Oak Grove Cemetery, Shiawassee County, Michigan), Alice Doretta Shuster Ferguson (interred at Oak Grove Cemetery, Shiawassee County, Michigan), Arlin Carroll Shuster (cremated), and Marland Daniel Shuster (interred at Riverside near his parents). At the time of his death, Grandpa also had 20 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents.

On September 18, 1958, just after his retirement, Grandpa was taking Grandma to work when they were involved in a car-train accident at a blind crossing; Grandma suffered severe injuries and spent several months recovering in the hospital and at home. Grandpa did not survive the accident, passing away the next day, September 19, 1958.

We all remember Grandpa for having candy in his pocket for the grandkids.
