Funeral services for L. Louis Babineaux Sr., 83, were held at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia. Entombment followed in Holy Family Mausoleum.

A native and resident of New Iberia, L. Louis Babineaux Sr. died on Feb. 14, 2001 at a New Iberia hospital.

In 1949, Mr. Babineaux founded Home Rug Cleaning Company and was owner operator for many years. It would later become Babineaux Carpet Cleaner and Floor Covering.

Mr. Babineaux retired from the Iberia Parish School System as tax collector after 18 years of service. He was also past president of the Louisiana Tax Collectors Association. He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council No. 1208 and past Grand Knight.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Fremin Babineaux of New Iberia; three sons, three daughters, including Lt. Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco of Lafayette, one brother, five sisters, twenty-two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alcee and Aline Theriot Babineaux: one son, L. Louis Babineaux Jr.; two grandchildren, Tricia L. Babineaux and Benedict A. Blanco; two sisters, Vivian B. Myers and Martrine B. Gastineau: and one brother, Andrew J. Babineaux.
