Robert W. Buchanan, 71, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Westside Manor following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. today at the Sioux City Gospel Mission, with the Revs. Maurice Russell and James Scallion officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Buchanan was born June 15, 1931, in Monroe, Iowa, the son of Gerald and Elizabeth (Tell) Buchanan. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1962. He lived in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Omaha before moving to Sioux City in 1995. He had worked for Small Freight in Omaha.

He attended Northside Alliance Church.

Survivors include two sisters and their husbands, Beth and Burnett Va Ness of Terre Haute, Ind., and Ruth and Chester Blevins of Centerville, Ohio; an uncle and aunt, Joe and Jane Tell of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an aunt, Lola Buchanan.
