VELMA JEAN ACUFF
Velma Jean Acuff, 84, passed away Sunday, May 17, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born in Bell County, Kentucky, she made her home in Jacksonville for many years before moving to Callahan. She was a homemaker for many years but received her GED when she was 62 years old and worked as a substitute teacher and Kindergarten teacher in the succeeding years. She will always be remembered as a loving grandmother and mother-in-law.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years Billie Joe Acuff; and son Craig Acuff in 2009 and her daughter Carol Love, in 2014.
Her surviving family includes her grandsons Jason (Jennifer) Love and Joey (Kristen) Love; her sister Ina Maxine Zupko; four great-grandchildren Haley, Tyson, Baileigh and Cy; and her daughter-in-law Paula Acuff; and son-in-law Randy Love.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 20, at 7 p.m. at Dinsmore Baptist Church with Dr. Winson Butler officiating.
