─══ ✿ڰۣڿ✿ Biography ✿ڰۣڿ✿ ══─

Byron Page Beaman was born Monday, May 24, 1897, in Pittsboro, Indiana. At the time of his birth his father, Albert, was 23 and his mother, Onie, was 21. Byron was the first of three children born to the couple. His other siblings were (1) Edith E., born 6 November 1899. She married Perry Fowler on 14 November 1921 in the District of Columbia. Edith died on 6 April 1926 giving birth to her twins. (2) Ernest Clifford, born 15 November 1905. He married Klara Lucia Brungardt on 2 July 1940 in California. Ernest died on 11 December 1965 in Cook County, Illinois.

On April 2, 1917, President Woodrow Wilson went before a joint session of Congress to request a declaration of war against Germany. The U.S. Senate voted 82 to 6 to declare war and the U.S. House of Representatives endorsed the declaration by a vote of 373 to 50. On April 6, 1917 the United States officially entered World War I. Byron enlisted in the Army on Tuesday, 4 June 1918. Two months later on 22 August 1918, he departed Newport News, Va., for France. He spent a year in France, departing Brest on 9 September 1919 and he arrived in Brooklyn, New York ten days later on 19 September 1919. Byron was released from the Army ten days later on 29 September 1919. He achieved the rank of Corporal.

Based on the 1930 U. S. Census, Byron married Dora Merle Hicks in 1926. The couple moved to Cook County, Illinois, where their first child was born. Byron Page Beaman, Jr. was born on 17 October 1929. The couple continued living in Illinois through 1930, but by the time their daughter, Jane Ann, was born they were living in Indianapolis, Indiana. Jane was born on 28 February 1935, when Byron was 35 years old. Another daughter, Nancy, was born in 1940. By 1942 the family was living in Pittsboro, Indiana. Sometime between 1942 and 1956 Byron and Dora divorced and Byron moved to Indianapolis. He met Ruth Ashmore (Bennett) Bryant and they married on Wednesday, November 19, 1958, in Bloomington, Monroe County, Indiana, when Byron was 61 years old. The couple lived in Indianapolis, Indiana for a few years and then moved to State Road 46 in Gosport before settling in Ellettsville.

Byron was the only grandfather I ever knew. Even though technically he was my step-grandfather, I never realized I was a step-grandchild. He was always excited to see the grandchildren of his second wife and always treated us as though we were his blood. He was definitely the more playful grandparent and he could always make us laugh.

He was exactly as a grandpa should be and I couldn't have asked for a better one.

Byron Page Beaman died on Sunday, September 18, 1983, in Danville, Indiana, when he was 86 years old. He is buried in his hometown of Pittsboro, Indiana in Sparks Cemetery. He is greatly missed.
