This is a nice CDV photo of Mr. Harrison Balfour. He was born in Ireland about 1816 and came to the United States as a young man. He was a son of John M. and Mary A. Balfour. On February 7, 1838 he married Ann Eliza Lawrence (1818-1899) in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. They settled in Bangor, Van Buren County, Michigan and had at least 8 children. He died on May 26, 1876 and is buried in the Arlington Hill Cemetery. The photo dates to the 1860's and has a turquoise 2 cent tax stamp on back. The image is very clear and has some tinting. He apparently served as a Union soldier in the Civil War and the following is his service record taken from ancestry.com:
