Luella L. Backward, 65, of Salina, former nurse at Claremore Indian Hospital, died July 25, 1998. Services 11 a.m. Wednesday, New Jordan Baptist Church, Salina. Funeral arrangements are by Stephens Memorial Chapel, Pryor.

Luella was of Cherokee heritage, the child of Rev. Thomas E. Thompson and Lizzie Beth Ross. She married Timothy Clay Chapman in Sebastian County, AR on 6/6/1949. Luella and Clay had six children:

Timothy Clay ("Speed")Chapman Jr. 1951-2012
Anthony Lynn ("Tony") Chapman b.1952

After her divorce from Clay Chapman, Luella remarried on 12/29/1961 to Lacy Backward, in Claremore, OK. They had two children:
