Carter married Elizabeth J. Richardson on November 14, 1947 and she survives. Carter served in the US Army Reserves for 7 years. Carter was a house painter from 1945 to 1952. He then opened Lanning Paint & Wallpaper in Rushville from 1952 to 2007 when he retired. Carter played saxophone in a combo band since high school and loved to play golf and go fishing. Carter was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Rushville.
In addition to his wife Elizabeth, Carter is survived by 2 sons, Rex Lanning of Richmond, IN and Max Lanning of San Francisco, CA, a daughter, Laura Lanning and husband Robert Bullington of Alamosa, CO, and granddaughter, Autumn Louise Lanning-Bullington.
Carter was preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers, Clinton, Carroll, Cecil and Charles.
Services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, June10, 2015 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville. Pastors Jan Dimick and Mick Saunders will preside. Friends are welcome to visit from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Mortuary that same day. The Rush County Honor Guard will perform Military rites at the mortuary. Burial will be in Rushville’s East Hill Cemetery.
