Nicholas Akins
January 13, 1942 - May 4, 2014
Nicholas Paul Akins, age 72, a resident of New Cut Road in Columbia, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Horizon Health & Rehab Center in Manchester, TN.

A visitation with family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 6-8PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Nick was born January 13, 1942 in Five Points, TN and was the son of the late Willard and Rosa Bell Akins. He graduated in 1961 from Hampshire High School. He was of the Church of Christ faith. He served in the Navy and afterwards became a truck driver. He enjoyed working, eating, and talking. In his spare time, he liked to go fishing. Nick was a man who loved people, always wanting to make others laugh by being witty and sarcastic.

Nick is survived by his best friend, Vicki Johnson of Columbia; children: Carl (Jeff) Daniel Akins of New Haven, CT, Daniel Siniard of Culleoka, David Samuel Akins of Knoxville, Shawnee Moore of Columbia, Nichole (Adam) Thornburg of Columbia, Shane Siniard of Columbia; siblings: Johnny (Ellen) Akins of Lewisburg, Sam Akins of Culleoka, and Vicki (Pete) Akins Staggs of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren: Jubilee Thornburg, Andrew Thornburg, Brohnwyn Bennett, and Andrea Siniard; great-grandchildren: Isaiah Siniard, Nicholas Chambers, and Allie Chambers; many nieces and nephews; and a dog that Nick loved, Annabelle.

Along with his parents, Nick was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe Akins and Kenneth “Popeye” Akins; and a granddaughter, Kailey Siniard.
