Sonny was born in York on February 10, 1940 and was the son of the late John C. and Madolynne (Young) Sweitzer. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the US Marines and was honorably discharged. He worked as a water treatment tester for P.H. Glatfelter in Spring Grove and retired in 2002 after 30 years of service. He was a life member and past commander of the Spring VFW Post #5265 and a member of Windy Hill Senior Center. He was also a NASCAR fan and a gardener and enjoyed camping, fishing and crabbing in Rehobeth Beach DE.
In addition to his wife Geraldine, he is survived by his son Keith Sweitzer and wife Lora of Spring Grove and his sister Virginia Shar and husband Richard of Kennett Square PA and his grand kitty “Mu”.
A funeral service in celebration of his life will be held on Saturday at 4:00 pm at Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove. A flag folding ceremony will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard at the funeral Home. A viewing will be held on Saturday from 2-4 pm at the funeral home.
